Kutty story #58

Our distractions pull us away from reaching our goals.

There is a historic temple on a mountain cliff. The priest of the temple passed away and the people were looking for a replacement. They sent a request to a Gurukulam in the town as well asking for a replacement. The Guru called on 5 of his favourite disciples whom he felt might be a good fit for the role.

He read out the message to them. He told them “since the requirement is for 1 person, only if you five leave together one of you can reach there on time as you might face lot of hurdles and distractions on your way”. The disciples obliged the Guru although with a slight disbelief that five needed to go together for one to be able to reach there.

When they reached the first village, they met rich and accommodating people with excellent environment. When the villagers knew who these young men were, they told them that they need a priest in the temple at their village as well and made an irresistible offer to them as remuneration. Immediately on hearing this, one among the five agreed to the offer and stayed back.

The other four left, and when they were passing through the next town, the king came to know of their journey and wanted to meet them. When the young men were presented to the king, he found one among the four to be very graceful, elite and intelligent. He was very impressed and immediately offered to the young man that he had been waiting for someone like him to be his son-in-law and offered the princess’s hand in marriage. The young man could not find words to speak at his new found fortune and he accepted the offer with much gay and happiness.  He stayed back and other three left from there. It was now that the young men remembered the Guru’s words of wisdom and the three  young men decided not to part ways at any cost from the instant.

They reached a forest and lost their way in the darkness. They saw a small hut in the distance with a low-lit lamp. They went to the hut to find some water to drink and were greeted by a very beautiful young girl who was alone as the parents had gone out and not returned yet. When the girl heard their story, she felt sorry for them being hungry and thirsty. So she immediately cooked a meal and served meal and gave them water through the window. The young men in return promised to stay outside the hut through the night and guard her till her parents returned.

The parents never returned till morning. One of the three young men was in awe of her beauty and he decided to stay back for her parents to return and sent the other two men on their way.

The two men now reached a village where all were athiests and never believed in God or his ways. Now seeing this, one of the young men got egoistic while trying to reason out with the villagers and he vowed to stay back and prove to them the existence of God. So he stayed back and asked his friend to go on the mission.

As the Guru had said initially, one disciple reached the temple finally for the priesthood.

From this we infer that many of us, in our quest for wealth, title, ego, love and lust, we forget our goals as our destination. We are engrossed in sorting our distractions that we forget to move forward.

Grab the opportunities and keep moving on..

STORY.1 It is not necessary that time favours you every time. Sometimes, it teaches a lesson : How to lead a disciplined life through difficulties Once there were two youngsters, one had an office job and the other, being blind, used to beg on the pavement of the office complex where the other worked.  The employee was never appreciated by anyone in his office and so he was demotivated. He had a tough time at his work place. Everyday, the employee on his way to and from his office, watched the blind beggar. One day he saw the begger with a note saying 'I am Blind'. The employee walked up to the begger and made a small change in the note and carried on with his day.  At the end of the day, on his way back from office the employee  was curious to know if his small change in the note made any difference to the beggar. As he neared the place, the begger recognized the employee with his foot steps and said  " I understand you are the one who cam...

World moves on without you: There lived a teacher in a small village. He had a wife, a son who was doing his higher studies and daughter who was ready to get married. He was living a contented life when a thought came to his mind that totally disturbed his peaceful existence.  He suddenly thought that he was the reason the whole family was happy. He felt that things wouldn’t be the same for them in his absence. This thought bred in him and over a few days turned into an ego in himself. One day when he was introspecting himself as a teacher he realized that he had become egoistic but it was already late as the ego had got the better of him already. At around the same time, a yogi arrived in the village and coincidentally he was speaking about controlling ones egos and vices. The yogi said that the world remains the same although many have come and left before this and continue to do so. After the talk, the teacher approached the yogi and confesses to him that hes already suffering w...

Ritual Once a Sadhu finished meditation and got up to find a wounded kitten. As he was a very kind man, he took the kitten to his ashram and started taking care of it. The kitten eventually recovered and grew to be a pet to Sadhu. The kitten was a very naughty one, it always play around the sadhu.  The Sadhu began to get distracted from his meditation. So one day, the Sadhu asked one of his followers to tie the kitten to the tree in front of the ashram. The disciple did so without a question.
